3.4 Mental toughness

Competence RequiredYou must successfully demonstrate:
Mental Toughness
ICC expects umpires to demonstrate mental toughness by remaining in control of their emotions, and by behaving in a rational manner.
Resilience under pressure
ICC expects umpires to remain calm under pressure. You need to know the sources of pressure – both internal and external – and the strategies needed to ensure that they remain in control of their emotions in order to carry out their duties effectively.
Remaining ‘In the moment’
ICC expects umpires to ‘remain in the moment’ by having the mental strategies to eliminate distractions.
Bouncebackability
ICC expects umpires to be able to recover and bounce back from setbacks and errors quickly and effectively before the next ball is bowled.
